Professional Profile
Andrew Choyce is a Registered Adult Nurse, Independent Nurse Prescriber and Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine accredited Advanced Critical Care Practitioner (ACCP) with over 20 years of experience in adult critical care. He currently serves as Lead Advanced Critical Care Practitioner and Service Lead, where he leads the development of the Trust's Advanced Critical Care Practitioner service whilst continuing to practise as an autonomous clinician within the Critical Care medical team.
Andrew possesses extensive expertise in the assessment and management of critically ill adult patients, advanced airway management, emergency intubation, critical care transfers, invasive vascular access, resuscitation and the management of deteriorating patients. Working at advanced clinical practice level, he independently initiates investigations, prescribes treatment and provides advanced interventions for Level 2 and Level 3 patients both within Critical Care and throughout the wider hospital.
Throughout his career Andrew has held senior leadership roles in Critical Care across several NHS Trusts, developing Advanced Critical Care Practitioner services, supporting education and governance, mentoring trainee ACCPs and contributing to clinical research. Alongside his clinical practice, he is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer, teaching and examining on MSc Advanced Clinical Practice programmes and leading specialist modules in critical care transfer.
Andrew has published extensively within peer-reviewed journals on advanced critical care practice, airway management and the safety of Advanced Critical Care Practitioners undertaking invasive procedures and inter-hospital transfers, demonstrating his commitment to evidence-based practice and service development.
