Cheryl Lugton is a Registered Adult Nurse, Independent Prescriber and Lead Tissue Viability Specialist Nurse with more than 30 years of nursing experience across acute care, critical care, community nursing and specialist tissue viability services. She currently leads her Trust's Tissue Viability Service, providing specialist clinical leadership across acute hospitals, mental health services, community hospitals, district nursing teams, treatment rooms and care home settings.
Her expertise includes pressure ulcer prevention and management, wound assessment, venous leg ulcer care, chronic oedema, lymphoedema-related care, wound formulary development, tissue viability governance and specialist wound management. She regularly provides expert clinical advice to healthcare professionals across NHS and independent sector services and develops care plans for patients with complex wound care needs.
Cheryl has extensive experience developing tissue viability policies, protocols and clinical guidelines, reviewing significant adverse events, reporting to governance bodies and leading quality improvement initiatives designed to improve patient outcomes and reduce avoidable harm. She is also an experienced educator responsible for training registered nurses, healthcare support workers and multidisciplinary teams in evidence- based tissue viability practice.
In addition to her clinical leadership role, Cheryl represents her Trust nationally through specialist tissue viability forums and contributes to wound care developments across Scotland.
