Jennifer Townsend is a Registered Adult Nurse, Independent Prescriber and highly experienced Tissue Viability specialist with over 20 years of nursing experience and more than 15 years dedicated to tissue viability, wound management and skin integrity services. She has held senior specialist and leadership roles across community, primary care and acute healthcare settings, including Tissue Viability Matron, Service Lead, Clinical Team Lead and Tissue Viability Nurse Specialist appointments.

 

Her expertise includes pressure ulcer prevention and management, chronic wound care, lower limb ulceration, compression therapy, skin integrity, wound infection management, complex wound assessment and evidence-based tissue viability practice. She provides specialist clinical review of patients with complex wound care needs and supports healthcare organisations in delivering safe, effective and guideline-compliant care.

 

Jennifer has extensive experience in clinical governance, quality improvement, policy development, Root Cause Analysis investigations, Serious Incident reviews and Coroner- related investigations involving tissue viability concerns. Throughout her leadership roles she has supported service improvement initiatives, developed clinical standards and delivered specialist education programmes for nursing and multidisciplinary teams.

 

She also has significant research experience, including serving as Principal Investigator for the national VenUS VI leg ulcer research study and previously working as a Research Nurse supporting participant recruitment and data collection for national wound care trials.
