A New Career Option for General Nurses
Are you a general nurse looking for something more - more control over your time, more professional stimulation, more impact? You’re not alone!
Many UK nurses are discovering nursing expert witness roles as a flexible, fulfilling way to contribute to healthcare while stepping beyond the demands of bedside care.
At Apex Experts, we specialise in helping nurses step into the medico-legal arena. We’re expanding our panel and welcoming general nurses across the UK who want to use their clinical experience to support the justice system.
What Does a Nursing Expert Witness Do?
As a nursing expert witness, you review clinical cases and provide impartial, evidence-based opinions on whether the care delivered met expected standards. Your work supports:
Clinical negligence litigation
Fitness-to-practise reviews
Inquests led by HM Coroners
Internal investigations by NHS trusts or care providers
You’ll analyse patient records, apply your clinical knowledge, and produce structured reports that inform legal and regulatory decisions.
You are not an advocate for either side. Your duty is to the truth, and to the Court.
Why Now? Why Apex?
The demand for clinical experts is rising, especially in the wake of growing healthcare litigation, backlogged investigations, and NHS trust reviews.
Apex Experts understands the legal system and the pressures nurses face. We’ve built a streamlined system that removes the common obstacles to getting started in this field:

Free legal and report-writing training
Full admin support (no chasing payments or dealing with clients)
Secure systems for all documentation
Prompt, reliable payments within 30 days of invoicing
Who We’re Looking For
We’re currently inviting applications from NMC-registered general nurses with:
At least 10 years of post-registration clinical experience
Are a band 7 or higher
Current clinical practice (full-time or part-time)
Confidence in reviewing medical records and identifying key issues
A calm, methodical approach to written communication
You do not need prior experience as an expert witness - we’ll provide you with all of the training and support you will need.
The Benefits of Nursing Expert Witness Roles
Flexibility: work from home, fit reports around your clinical shifts or personal life - you choose which cases to accept.
Continuous Development: you’ll learn legal frameworks (CPR Part 35), ethical considerations, and how to communicate complex ideas clearly and credibly.
Additional Income: a way to support your income. Payment is always guaranteed within 30 days
Mentorship and Support: you’ll never be alone. From report drafting to client communication, our team supports you throughout.
What Kind of Cases Will You Work On?
You might be asked to review:
A care home’s falls prevention protocols
A hospital’s pressure sore management
A delay in referral to A&E
A failure to escalate concerns for a deteriorating patient
A dispute over consent and documentation
These are real-world cases where your knowledge makes a measurable difference.

Over time, you’ll become fluent in a format that’s consistent, compliant, and credible.
The Reality of Legal Work: Professional, Not Performance
Unlike in clinical work, there are no time pressures or physical strain. You’re not “on call.” You don’t work shifts. You deliver analysis - thoughtful, considered, and defensible.
Court appearances are rare but can occur. If you are ever called, we prepare you thoroughly so you know what to expect.
Your Voice Matters More Than Ever

Legal teams, regulators, and public bodies are calling for higher standards in healthcare. But they can’t interpret nursing notes or documentation without your help.
That’s why this role exists - to bridge the gap between law and care, and general nurses like you are ideally placed to do it.
