Condition and Prognosis Report
What is a Condition and Prognosis Report?
Condition and Prognosis reports are written by independent expert witnesses, providing a medical opinion on:

-
The Claimant’s current medical condition – the nature and extent of their injury or illness
-
The likely future outlook (prognosis) – how the condition is expected to develop over time, including recovery prospects, potential complications, and any permanent effects

Condition and Prognosis reports are CPR Part 35 compliant and are prepared to the standards required for use in court. They are independent, impartial, and include the necessary declaration and statement of truth.

A Condition and Prognosis report is typically required in personal injury claims (including road traffic accidents, workplace accidents, and public liability matters), clinical negligence cases, and cases where future treatment needs and recovery timelines need to be established before settlement discussions.
It helps the court or negotiating parties understand the nature and seriousness of the injury or illness, how it will impact the Claimant’s life in the short, medium, and long term and what future care, treatment, and support might be needed.

This evidence is often relied upon by other experts - such as care experts, occupational therapists, or vocational specialists, to ensure their assessments and costings are accurate.
What's Included in the Report?
Our Condition and Prognosis reports are charged on an hourly basis and typically cover:

-
Review of all relevant medical records and supporting documentation provided by the instructing party
-
Assessment of the Claimant – either in person or via video consultation to examine symptoms, functional abilities, and overall health
-
Analysis of the impact of the injury on the Claimant’s life, including work, mobility, self-care, and recreation
-
Recommend future medical interventions or therapies, where appropriate
-
A clear prognosis, setting out:
-
Expected recovery timeline, if applicable
-
Likelihood of further treatment or surgery
-
Any risk of deterioration or complications
-
Whether the condition is permanent or will improve over time
-

We also provide a fee estimate, so there are no surprises. The fee estimate will depend on the volume of records, the assessment and travel time required, and the general complexity of the case.

The hourly rate is set by the individual expert and reflects their specific area of expertise, the length of their clinical career, and their level of experience in preparing expert witness reports.
